"In our house on North Congress Street in Jackson, Mississippi, where I was born, the oldest of three children, in 1909, we grew up to the striking of clocks. Eudora Welty in One Writer's Beginnings.

The organizers of The Southern Literary Trail are proud to announce that the Trail's inaugural year coincides with the Centennial Celebration of Eudora Welty, whose contributions to the nation's cultural heritage will be celebrated throughout 2009. November 6, 2008: Literary Symposium on Welty at the Museum of the City of New York with Richard Ford, Robert MacNeil, Reynolds Price, and Welty biographer Suzanne Marrs.

November 6, 2008: Opening Reception for Eudora Welty in New York: Photographs of the Early 1930s, an exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York on display from November 7, 2008, until February 15, 2009.

January until April, 2009: Eudora Welty and Friends, a Leadership in the Humanities Seminar, will be taught by Dr. Suzanne Marrs, the Welty Scholar in Residence at Millsaps College, Jackson, Mississippi.

February 22, 2009: Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Ceremony at the Jackson Convention Complex, Jackson, Mississippi, is presented as part of the Centennial and with the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

March 6, 2009: Welty panel discussion at the Mississippi Historical Society and tour of the Eudora Welty House.

March 20-22, 2009: Eudora Welty New Play Series at New Stage Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi.

March 24, 2009: WELTY HOUSE INDUCTED INTO THE SOUTHERN LITERARY TRAIL WITH PATTI CARR BLACK AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER.

March 28, 2009: Garden seminar with Dr. William Welch of Texas A&M University at Belhaven College of Jackson, Mississippi, along with plant sales at Welty House.

March 29, 2009: Unveiling of Welty's portrait for the Mississippi Hall of Fame at The Old Capitol in Jackson, Mississippi.
